Morgan Street Apartment
As part of a design challenge to use only reclaimed or re-used materials, McGregor Design Build updated this two bedroom apartment. The guest bedroom, which was also a room for the owner’s son, features a platform bed made of palettes. The artwork above the bed was inspired by a family joke based on a statement by the owner’s young son, while the other wall features a set of framed posters the reflect the owner’s love of music.
In the living room, a vintage chair, sofa, and bar cart are paired with a coffee table made from milk crates and reclaimed wood. The wall is decorated with sleeves from the owner’s CD collection. The main bedroom has a masculine and moody feel. The area around the bed was given a dark paint treatment in lieu of a headboard, while the king-sized bed and nightstands were custom built from reclaimed scaffold wood.
The bed base was built for free with reclaimed wood pallets from the supermarket, and the Ikea side table was also free from a neighbour who was moving. The bedside lights are from Home Depot and were re-wired so they could be plugged into an outlet.
The bedcover and rug were from West Elm, while the chair is a vintage Universale chair by Joe Colombo for Kartell.
The art wall was made up of family photos and large format posters from an online shop. The paint is Farrow & Ball Brassica.
The living room has a vintage leather couch from another apartment moving sale, and otherwise uses the Owner’s existing furniture.
The coffee table was made from reclaimed wood scraps and milk crates.
The bed and side table were made from reclaimed scaffold wood, with pillows and bedding from CB2.
The bed nook was painted in Farrow and Ball Studio Green.
