Hudson Street Studio
For this tiny studio apartment in a downtown Jersey City skyscraper, every inch of space was used. The owner’s embrace of vibrant colour is seen in the purple Ligne Roset chairs in the bedroom cum living room, and the orange ottoman in the hallway, which can be transformed into a single bed to accommodate visits from grandchildren. The distinctly different yet complementary colour palettes were chosen in order to create a feeling of different rooms within the space, with the hallway serving double duty as a small office.
Because of the small size of the apartment the owner splurged on Pumpkin chairs and an ottoman in vibrant purples to make a statement.
The chairs are in two shades of colour, while the wall leading to the hallway was painted in Farrow and Ball Calluna, a soft lilac with a touch of black, that complements the chairs without becoming overwhelming.
The kitchen was left unchanged: the vases add touches of colour and serve to unify the scheme between the living / sleeping area and the hallway.
The orange ottoman pulls out into a twin size bed for overnight visits from grandchildren.
The hallway mirror is placed to extend the sense of space from the front entrance, while the striped rug serves to visually broaden the corridor, which just has space for a work desk.
