Downtown Jersey City Renovation
What began as a simple plan to add a staircase morphed into a full renovation of this downtown Jersey City home for a family of five. The existing 4 story, 3 family home was reconfigured into a triplex above a basement level granny flat AirBnb apartment. The upper two floors were reconfigured to create two full bathrooms alongside three bedrooms and a playroom. On the main entrance level, closing of the basement stairs allowed for the creation of a generously-sized mudroom.
The children's bathroom plays with fun and vibrant colours.
The mood is utilitarian chic. We wanted the space to have the feel of a Victorian built, Enid Blyton style boarding school, with all the fun of midnight feasts, tuck boxes and great adventures!
Sink details
We fitted a mudroom under the stairs, making use of the space where previously there were more stairs leading to the basement level (now its own apartment).
A large cased opening leads into the main living area.
We added plenty of hooks as well as built in drawers for each member of the family, and additional cabinets with built in power outlets for charging devices.
View from the entryway.
The master bathroom on the second floor, with a more refined feel, inspired by the 1950s.
The shower controls are placed on the opposite wall to the shower heads, so the owners can turn on the shower without getting wet.
Colour is reserved for the inside of the shower, creating a calm, immersive bathing experience.
The bathroom is petite but the vanity and medicine cabinet provide plenty of storage.
